If your wrists and forearms are loose and turned off then this happens without thinking about or manipulating. Once you begin manipulating in the full swing you will begin manipulating in pitch shots, chips, and putts.

funny I just saw an identical pitching lesson on one of the British golf websites. I was checking pitching lessons because thou Im not bad at it I NEED to get it closer to the pin so I can hopefully one putt! Majority of my play doesn’t result in GIR’s but Im always close and therefore good chopping is VITAL. Thanks Clay, can always count in you for golf and tennis stuff!

For those who have seen the “throw the clubhead” videos-like Steve Pratt and his “outthrow” and lots of others that you can find on UZwindow under “throw the clubhead-this instruction is just the opposite and I, for one, can’t reconcile the two approaches. Many videos instruct you not to be a “handle puller,’” yet that’s exactly what is being taught here. And if there is some difference between what is being taught and the dreaded handle pulling, is that difference going to be discerned by the average golfer watching this video? If there is, it’s lost on me. But then again, there appears to be a million contradictions in golf instructions, and not just on UZwindow.

Hahaha... this is so complicated. Check out Jim Venetos, who teaches a swing with no shoulder turn, no weight shift and no swing thoughts, and virtually guarantees an inside-out, circular descending strike that produces a nice tight draw with power, every time.

Great video Clay. My question is do you consciously release the club as you turn or kinda "let it happen"? Cuz I think I can do what you show here with short irons but have a hard time hitting the ball with 6 iron up if I don't consciously release the club at hip high.....maybe I'm not swinging correctly with long irons. Thx

Do you feel like your right elbow is tucking close to the side some when chipping these 60 and 80 yard shots? I’m thinking like one of your compression irons where you push the right elbow forward bending the shaft to get the rotation feel? Is that the same here?

This video has pointed out flaws in my setup and swing that I felt were wrong but have not previously found an answer for and I have watched a lot of videos. Thanks for a great set of lessons all in one.

I feel like on your back swing your not rotating your body, but rather you arms and shoulders are rotating. On your downswing you’re body starts to rotate just as you make contact with the ball. Is that what I should be thinking about when I swing? My full swing is great. I can’t chip or pitch to save my life.

This is great Clay! It was just yesterday that I finally figured out how to do a fluid full swing and recorded myself when I did it. I wasn’t sure why when I pitched, I was more on my lead foot versus a full swing where there is more of a weight shift. This cleared that up and made me realize I am doing it correctly.

For the amateur this is very good advice if you understand the mechanics of a catapult swing. If you will notice pro's don't really swing the club until the hands reach waist level. Torso shoulders and hips creates an illusion of swinging the club. They do it so effortlessly it's hard to catch.

Clay as usual, another example of the best golf instruction on the internet. I stay in my posture simply by driving my right shoulder at the ball. Its a feel thing. If I keep my right shoulder in the same posture and drive it into the ball, everything just works. I visualize DJ or Lee Westwood and how they do this, Tommy Fleetwood too. If you watch them from down the line you can see the right shoulder just driving at the ball.

Clay I learned that the follow through is a crucially important meditative part of the swing. The left hand has to bring the club to the end of the swing. It’s best not to overly use the right hand in the swing. Any thoughts towards the use of the right hand in the follow through would burden the total effort. You probably naturally have great balance and great form. I think this thought can lead to even greater consistency. Have you ever competed in the UZwindow golf tournament?

I enjoy that you talked about closing the club head face at address. You said to hit the outside of the ball. Hit the outside while coming from the inside to create the draw. The downswing plane is different from the backswing plane. I have a blister on top of my left big toe knuckle. I tape it so it doesn’t get red and sensitive. I think if I keep my toes off the ground I can roll to the outside of my left foot and get slightly greater club head speed. Friday at Dyker Beach GC in Brooklyn, NYC I hit a 294 yard drive from the white tees. The 7th hole is a par 5 482 yards (491-482). I’m a very flexible 70 year old guy who ran 14 marathons in the 1990’s & 2000’s. After a 28 year break I’m back very much in the game. I’ve written 20,000 words on the golf swing thanks in large measure to the great videos of UZwindow. Imagining the golf swing is a meditative art form. I had a chance to reach a green that many golfers don’t get a chance to do. I didn’t hit the green but I feel it will happen. Be Great Be Good and Be Lucky
