My grandfather who taught me how to play golf used to do this same drill with me at the driving range by cutting a tennis ball in half. Great Drill... Correct me if I'm wrong though, when you switched the balls I noticed during the back swing your right leg completely straightened as though you were pushing your kneecap backwards. I was always taught that straightening that leg out will ruin your turn and often cause your body to lean in the wrong direction. I know that this is part of the "stack and tilt" swing. Is this just to emphasize the drill? Or is straightening that leg okay?

It's just to emphasize the drill. You'll want some bend in the trail leg. Play well! Nate | TSG Instructor

I know it's self centered. But I really hope no one i golf with ever finds your channel. You have the greatest teaching method on the tube man. I tried this last night and about spun out my shoes. This truly does give you the correct feeling of what it's supposed to feel like. Couldn't believe the difference once I got rid of the balls and swung. By my 3rd swing I was booming them straight and added 5yds of carry according to my swing caddie. Thanks again for all of your content.

Isn” t left knee rotate out first than pushing from right foot? This way you do not lift right foot at impact.
2 oy oldinTop Speed Golf - Clay Ballard
The trail foot should be lifting before impact to help clear the hips. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor

Is this same technique used for FW off the deck or or just for driver off the tee?
2 oy oldinTop Speed Golf - Clay Ballard
Same concept for all clubs. You might find this helpful though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTWGt9Q0298 Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor

Amazing lesson Clay🏌🏼♂️👊🏼 that’s exactly what i’m working on right now my but i’m still struggling with swaying towards the target When i’m shifting my weight back In the downswing
2 oy oldinTop Speed Golf - Clay Ballard
Thanks! Here's a video that has some drills that should help with the hip swaying: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cdlc-PTE-zw Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor

Why did the heel lift on the backswing disappear overtime if it was effective?
2 oy oldinKris Ferrero
@Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard alright but what I'm trying to say is that you rarely see pro golfers do the heel lift these days.
2 oy oldinTop Speed Golf - Clay Ballard
The lead foot heal lift is still effective at creating more hip turn and it hasn't disappeared from our instruction. This video just addresses the clearing of the hips is all. Hope you're playing great golf! Play well! Nate | TSG Instructor

OH NOOOO!! Clay, you'd better record and re-edit this video with a disclaimer protecting you from litigation because some fool is going to try this and fall & break a leg, hip or worse and try holding you liable!! 😲😨

Haha! 😂 Thanks for looking out!
2 oy oldinDavid Miller
I'm working on this currently but how would you stop that spinning out motion with the right hip spinning forward and blocking the space. For me this causes me to back up through impact and early extend.
2 oy oldinDavid Miller
@Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard some man cheers 👍

Try sitting back when you start the downswing. Here's a video with some drills that should help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-ZDtuWQLkI Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor

Like this Clay. Conciser taking this to another level. Goata Movement of the best athletes, have their femurs rotating Internally in the socket joint. Lets say you were standing on a slippery surface while performing this drill. In the backswing the lead leg would show your heel working toward target and your femur working toward the mid-line. The same is true but opposite on the downswing for the trail leg. Internal Rotation of the Femur Externally rotates the heel outward. Once we replant the lead heel from it's outward location we have all the forward we need without slide or thrust as we have already acquired our forward location. The Lead leg is planted and the trail leg is now rotating internally. Ground force reaction takes on a whole new level with this Internal Load. The rear post now assists wrt opening the lead hip. Just for consideration.

Thanks for taking the time to share. Play well!

This video tie in well with a question I've always had. As I started recorded and watching my swing more I saw that I do something I didn't even realize. I lift up my left heal, spin it towards the target and then swing down. I've alway been wondered if that in effects the power generated by the lead leg in any way. .
2 oy oldinDan Brewer
@Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard I will defiantly try. Thank you very much for your response and all your instruction.
2 oy oldinTop Speed Golf - Clay Ballard
Lifting the lead foot during the backswing allows for more hip turn and therefore more potential shoulder turn. This all creates a longer swing and more potential time for more power. Play well! Nate | TSG Instructor

And the next thing you find 95% of the people have early hip extensions, and another problem to solve

Great drill. I could see how this could create a good feeling. 10 for the backswing then 10 for the downswing. Another great video Clay and team. 👍🏻
2 oy oldinTop Speed Golf - Clay Ballard
Thanks 👍
2 oy oldinRyan Bingham
I agree with everything but i feel i gain accuracy when i resist my turn some with that front hip and keep the knee feeling like it holds toward the target. I’m not great player and definitely not a teacher but that’s something that i’ve found.
