That's another great instruction video from you Clay. Do you have close the driver face at the top of the backswing and also again on the downswing when your club is near parallel to the ground?

27 kun oldin
Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard
Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard

What matters most is what happening at impact. As long as the face is in the correct position by impact, it doesn't matter if you adjust it at the top of the backswing or during the backswing. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor

Just wondering. IF you take the club back on a shallower plane would'nt you be in the same position as shallowing at the start of the downswing? I know that's probably considered one plane, but what is the advantage of rerouting the club?

2 oy oldin
Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard

A two-plane swing has a longer arc and more potential power. However, both one and two-plane swings work with the TSG system. Play well! Nate | TSG Instructor

I found this to be incredibly insightful. I took the lesson here and applied it to my practice and saw immediate results, but I can see from the video recording of my swing that my hips stop firing close to impact. Instead, the shoulders and hips seem to be moving together... the club is no longer steep, and the impact is MUCH better, but I can see my body almost doing a reverse C now. However, I'll take it cause the dispersion is so much less now. Any drills specifically for learning how to keep the hips firing all the through before impact?

The 'reverse motorcycle move' only closes the clubface when the left wrist is in radial deviation . If you retain that bent left wrist as it ulnar deviates in the late downswing , the clubshaft becomes more angulated (forward shaft lean and clubhead approaching from a more inside path) with the clubface 'opening' to the ball-target line. This means you will still need to supinate your left forearm to try and square the clubface by impact. To close the clubface by impact , one can shallow the club in the early downswing and then use the 'passive torque' concept advocated by Dr Sasho MacKenzie (as you demonstrated in your video using a steeper lead arm plane vs clubshaft plane). When you demonstrated the closing of the clubface slowly by flexing your left wrist at 21:44 , your lead wrist was still partially radial deviated which is why the clubface remained closed (as per my first sentence).

4 oy oldin
Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard
Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard

It's less important when you roll your wrists when doing "The Move" and more important that you actually do. Most people cannot bow their wrist like Dustin Johnson at the top, so they find it easier to do it during the downswing. Play well! Nate |TSG

Why do you have to shallow the club on the way down instead of just keeping the take away and down swing all on one plane ???

5 oy oldin

@Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard how come I see some pros now trying to steepen their swing not to shallow it so much like Ricky Fowler ?

5 oy oldin
Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard
Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard

You can do that but it's usually not the best for speed and I often see flat backswing produce over the top downswings. Elevating the arms more in the backswing allows you to have more space to accelerate the club and create speed but requires you to shallow it in the downswing.

Clay, I see that your right wrist gets cupped as you get to the top of the backswing. You said to keep the right wrist flat as we take the backswing. When do you start to cup the right wrist?

8 oy oldin
Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard
Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard

It can help to keep the trail wrist flat initially in the backswing so that the club doesn't get sucked too much to the inside. After the club gets to first parallel then you'll want to start cupping it to get the club in a good position at the top. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

It’s a great video Clay; and focusing on that dominant hand/wrist to get that feel to resonate seems like a better feel for me too. One question that relates to getting the face strengthened/squared for delivery into impact — do you think it’s better to get the right wrist/left wrist to do that swiveling move that squares the face early on as you’re dropping the shaft down into that shallow position? Or do you prefer to wait until you’re closer to moving through impact to get the face squared up? I like the feeling of getting rt wrist to extend backwards/left wrist to bow but not exactly sure as to whether it’s advisable to work that move during the shallowing piece or later on as you are moving into impact?

9 oy oldin
Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard
Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard

It only matters how the club arrives into impact but typically it's better to do it as early as you can in the downswing. If you don't then you're likely doing something else like flipping to compensate. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Clay, I find you videos extremely helpful and I work on your instructions on the range.
